Butter Chicken Cookies
Me: I almost put curry powder instead of ginger in my gingerbread cookies. The containers are the same size and they're close enough in color in my kitchen's shitty lighting.
R: Yikes!
R: Although...curry ginger cookies...
Me: I mean, both go into the sauce when I make curry.
Me: Hmm...
R: Some sort of savory cookie might be good.
Me: That's called a cracker.
R: I disagree.
Me: I don't think I have the skills to make what I would call a "savory cookie".
Me: But I DO have the skills to make sugar cookies with the same flavor profile as butter chicken.
R: If you make this, I promise I will eat it.
So I went back to watching Skyscraper and baking gingerbread for today's work party, but I couldn't stop thinking about the curry cookies. I ended up quartering this rolled sugar cookie recipe (a Good Recipe - best success I've had with cookie cutters in years), subtracting the vanilla and adding garam masala, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, turmeric, and cardamom (I was, ironically, out of ginger). I briefly considered chicken broth, tomato paste, garlic salt, etc. but decided to stay away from "savory cookie" land, wherever that is. They turned out really good - like spice cookies with a twist, cheerfully yellow with very fine brown speckles. I took them to aikido last night and they were scarfed down by R and the others. Next time I'll have to make more and be more deliberate about measurements.
